Head's message

Please note: Dr Sally James will be joining the Girls’ College on 1 September 2017 as the new head of school.

St Stithians Girls' College aims to educate all young women to be effective leaders in our society. Our leadership philosophy is underpinned by an understanding of "servant leadership" whose role models include Jesus Christ, Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela. The College strives to develop a sense of inner worth in the girls.

Ways of belonging

Our school is an inclusive community, encouraging every girl, as unique as she is, to belong to something bigger than herself. These smaller groups are focused on each girl’s emotional and social wellbeing, which is central to every girl's experience of success and healthy self-esteem.

Every girl belongs to a tutor group (her family at school consisting of a teacher who is her mother/father at school) for the duration of her schooling, and her “siblings” of about 15 girls from every grade who meet regularly. Every girl belongs to one of the four House groups, which encourages her to develop healthy competition and pride.

The WHOLE girl

St Stithians Girls' College provides broad and multiple opportunities for every girl to shine. Academic, sporting, cultural, service, spiritual, social and emotional vistas are open to our girls for overall health and wellness.

We strive to develop girls who are so strong on the inside that they can choose to be gentle with others.

Quotes that capture our philosophy

  • Lift as you climb
  • "A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms” – Sensei Ogui
  • “The best antidote to sexism and racism is excellence. Be excellent” – Oprah Winfrey
  • Plus est en vous” (There is more in you than you think). Was adopted by Kurt Hahn, the founder of Round Square, as intrinsic to that organisation’s educational values
  • “We need women who are so strong, they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free” – Kavita Ramdas

St Stithians Girls' College is an enriching, positive environment filled with endless opportunities and possibilities for our girls to “know themselves, be themselves and to make a contribution”.
